Your Transformation Coach

There are always buzz words that marketing uses to attract people. Lately I've seen the words: extreme, immediate, rapid, and transformation all relating to the fitness industry. The fitness industry uses marketing and marketing is not always that truthful. I think it is because the REAL TRUTH would not sell. In regards to “fitness” losing, gaining, maintaining whatever your gol is takes a plan, commitment, and work. There is no magic short cut. I can visualize the commercial or you tube video telling someone that FOREVER you will have to eat right, exercise, and encounter bumps along the way to reach your “fitness” goal. I am sure that sales and memberships would sky rocket. Right???

Rapid and dramatic body transformations ARE possible , though, with the right combination of
* fitness
*nutrition
* support
* rewards
which is what I offer as your Free Coach

This leads me to my transformation story. I took up running about five years ago pretty seriously because I needed a shift from the body building scene. Everything is good in moderation, but my extreme goal of trying to gain muscle while leaning out was having a negative effect on my life. Running helped me over come a lot of insecurities and low esteem that I had developed from body building. Which seems so ironic because one would think that body building would do the opposite. I can remember working out in sweatshirts and baggy pants in the middle of summer, because of how bad I was feeling about not being lean enough!  Not everyone’s experience is the same, this is just my story.
I have now done three marathons since I took up running, but after this last one I started to feel burnt out from running. That is when I made the commitment to TURBOFIRE. I would like to say that I began this workout series to keep my heart strong, but that would be a lie. I wanted to see if I could transform my body rapidly, like the stories I'd seen of graduates of this program.   I even incorporated  SHAKEOLOGY because I wanted to see if it worked too!

The Results:
First of all, I love the SHAKEOLOGY. I love the way it makes me body feel, how nutrient dense it is, and how easy it is to make!  Secondly, TURBOFIRE is FUN!  It is a series of high energy, short duration workouts that leave you sweating and smiling at the same time.

I took out the tape measure and took out the scale for past 6 weeks and the results??? I still look the same, really come on!?! That is when it hit me. My transformation took place on the inside...I wish I could say that I came up with this all on my own but I did not. Sometimes you hear the words, but it was on THAT DAY that I really took it in.  I heard Chalene (the creator of TURBOFIRE ) say it, but it was today I really took it in. She references how it is not all about the number on the scale, but how blessed you are to work this hard.... That is it!  The truth was that I was in very good shape and my body probably wouldn't change that much as long as I continued to challenge it!  There really will come a day when I will not be able to do plyometric drills or run countless miles and I should be thankful for what I can do now!

I realized that the transformation I was seeking was the wrong one. I needed to transform my perspective on why I work out. Over the past 6 weeks I have been working in my heart rate zones, learning new moves, and I have been committed to a workout plan. I can celebrate that I can now “FIRE UP” the music with the dvds and I can kick higher.  i'm in my zone and having a blast!  I had fallen into the trap o flocking a certain way and obsessing about numbers (weights and measurements). Now, I am back and I will continue my journey with this transformation.

I am writing this in hopes that you can find that joy in your workouts as you work on your outer and inner transformation story.  In all aspects of life it is hard not to get distracted and pulled in. I encourage you to make that inner transformation through fitness. Celebrate what you can do, how you feel, and than pass it on to someone else. And if you need some help, encouragement, or a recommendation...I'll be happy to help!  Just send me an email at: Trurunner27@yahoo.com

Happy working out at home,

Click to see my quick video on eating.

First, let me start off with I have B.A. and a M.A., but not in nutrition or the medical field.  I have over 11 years of fitness experience but I do not have a certification for nutrition.  Therefore, whatever I write in this post it is just my own personal opinion and  not medical advice. Proceed reading at your own risk and whatever choices you make are your own....

Glad you are still reading.  In my summer video you will see just what I love to do.  Life is too short to fill it with things we do not love.  Running is my numero uno thing I enjoy.  The only bad thing is that my foot holds me back from doing it year round.  I have to find other things to do that gives me that rush.  Two years ago I found kickboxing, last year I found TurboFire, and this year I found CrossFit.  Well, CrossFit is here to stay and I am addicted.  You probably thought this was about nutrition and eating, it is stick with me.
When I get into things I really get into them.  The important thing I have found is that nutrition really has to be specific for what your goal is. It also depends on what you are expending verses taking in calories wise.  I know that if I incorporate high intensity training I can be a little bit more relaxed on my calories in.  If I am running long distance, 13 miles plus is what I consider long. I need my Accel Gel so I don’t feel completely wiped out for the next two days.  If I am trying to lean out I eat more fish.  Each of these descriptions shows you based on what I am trying to accomplish I alter my nutrition. I find it fascinating to change and tweak things eating wise and to discover my personal results.
I am NOT perfect and I do NOT know everything.  I spend my time reading nutrition books and seeking out people who have the same interest in that aspect.  Some people are excellent at what they do physically and how they look by choosing things I would not eat.  That is their choice and it does not bother me at all. It’s not my place to change people. I am writing this in hopes that it just encourages you to stop and look at what you do. Are you satisfied with your choices and where you at for your own personal goals? If so keep doing what you are doing.  If you find the opposite to be true than you decide what you want to do about it.
I appreciate the time you are giving me by watching the video and for reading this.  I touched on the “health food snob,” situation.  Numerous times I will be at someone’s get together or a gathering and someone will call me out on my eating. I find it funny, because my friends know it really is who I am and it isn’t just a phase. I do want to clarify that in my faith I am thankful for food.  I think our society tends to forget that starvation does exist and those people probably would not mind what kind of food it was. They would just be thankful for food. You need to be comfortable with your selections in those situations.  I tend to have a shake before I go out.  This helps so I am not as tempted. I do look for the veggies and fruits at the gatherings.  No, I will not eat cake or desserts.  Not for the calories, but health wise. I am gluten-free for reason.  The negative side- effects I get are just not worth the bite.  So a “heath food snob,” would reason “No, I am on a diet.”  I choose to be healthy, because I value the positive INSIDE effects.  At all times I have some fitness goal that I am trying to reach.  It becomes a lifestyle, automatic, natural.  Like I said I am NOT perfect, you just won’t see me downing wheat filled, sugar filled, or highly processed food. If you do around me, truly I don’t care.  Go ahead if that is what makes you happy, do it.  I am not anyone’s food police officer. Please note, you might see me downing a whole bunch of strawberries covered in chocolate agave or an extra portion of my white sweet potato with lots of cinnamon.  Being “perfect,” no....just keeping it real.
Side note from the video...I do mean it “from the bottom of our heart,” if you aren’t happy and satisfied change something.  I feel for people who are in that spot.  I was there and I do have the pictures to prove it.  My weight went up way past where it should of for me personally.  I don’t know where I would be if someone would not have been honest with me and said “Kima, you are getting thick.” In the bodybuilding community that is code for “You are getting fat.”  I looked and felt terrible. That was the wake up call I needed.  It feels amazing to be able to do more and not have the icky health feelings I once had. It might have hurt at the time to hear it, but I am forever thankful I did.
To get to the point where I lost 15 pounds, please note on my frame that is a lot.  I know people lose over 100 pounds, but to lose 15 and to keep it off after jacking up my body from competing, it was tough.  The constant thing in my journey has been a powdered protein drink.  I will not let go of the belief that post workout I need a quick refuel for the muscles and for my blood sugar.  I have tried various ones and I always tended to stick with a low carb and around 120 calories.  Which is different for my husband.  As it should be he is way bigger and his workouts are different than mine.  It is just trial and error for what works and what taste good to you. We are all different, so why should we all eat exactly the same?

Wow, if you are still reading you must be that much into nutrition, too! Awesome.  In my videos you will see my shakeology.  It took me 3 women to tell me about it before I tried it.  NO, it is not a protein shake but a meal replacement.  Ahh, I didn’t know about it either. I decided after 3 women and 5 months of hearing about I would try it.  It has been almost 10 months of me taking it routinely. Just watch my videos, I can do what I want to do, because I have the energy and stamina.  Truthfully, I am a Team Beachbody Coach and I like the perk of getting it at a discount.  I will leave it at that if you want to see more you can click on my link.  Forewarning you, it is expensive.  I just budget differently to get it in. No mani’s, pedi’s, jewelry, or purses for me. It is worth the results I am FEELING and it is a no brainer for those hectic days.
